At first glance the title above I'm sure a lot of angry Aikidoist will, it is assumed that this is the ' yet another attack on credibility of Aikido other martial artists. On this occasion are totally wrong, I was a student of Aikido from 1956, in those early days I started Judo in 1955 at the school of Kenshiro Abbe of Budo, I studied with Harada Karate and Kendo with master Tomio Tani Sensei, ' or so with my background I feel that I have something to offer to this debate.
First Impressions
L ' Aikido I saw the first time is demonstrated by Master Abbe in 1956 was undoubtedly a positive martial art. I was immediately struck by his positive techniques and power, and in those days my fellow martial artists and I have been in no doubt that we have witnessed a devastating new form of self-defense as demonstrated by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. Maestro Abbe had started his career in martial arts at ' the age of five years and has become a legend in life. At eighteen he was the youngest champion of Judo in Japan and also the youngest 5° Dan at the Kodokan's world-famous. Later he became the oldest ever all Japan Judo Champion at the age of thirty-three years '.
When the master Abbe arrived in United Kingdom in 1955 is 8° Dan Judo, 6° Dan Karate, Kendo, 6° Dan 6° Dan Kyudo, 6° Dan Aikido, the question must be asked, would this have been studying Aikido Budo master if he is not believed to be a martial art?
And ' my opinion that the teacher would not have studied the Abbe ' Aikido as it is today.
