Women in martial arts

I was born in West London, in 1963, my father was very involved in martial arts and a degree dan of Karate was also a merchant of ancient Japanese weapons and armour, although my father has an antique shop in Bond Street in London, my house was more like a samurai warrior with clothes dressing room, original Japanese armor complete with very frighting masks for the face that he scared the life out of my friendsWhen ever came to visit, there were also many precious swords lance yari and naginata.

The Masters

My father would travel around the world in search of better weapons quality, what intrigued me more than one child was all these strange visitors who would come to my house, the famous family Otani were regular visitors with Sensei 7th Dan Judo Matsuro Otani, the United Kingdom national coach, Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, Tomio Otani Sensei United Kingdom national coach of kendo, visitors were like the ' who's who of martial arts, no later than two weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting with Dan Sensei Kazuo Chiba eighth when he came to see my father.

Introduction to Aikido

As a child, I did a little ' of Karate with my father, but nothing serious until 1992 when I went to the local Aikido dojo in Bracknell, Berkshire, United Kingdom. All those years with my father and his Japanese weapons must have had a latent but profound effect on me while I watched Sensei Ellis teach her positive style of traditional Aikido I met there and then that this was the ' martial art for me.

Hard training Begins

When I started Aikido I made a point of training with men and have treated me like one of them. With regular practice I progressed. I had now developed a bug hard training and started courses in physical training and weight-lifting amateur, after several years of hard work I am a qualified fitness trainer instructor and personal trainer training weight lifting amateur, the high light of all this effort was when Sensei Ellis me promoted to assistant coach of Traditional Aikido schools Ellis (ESTA) two years after I was promoted to Assistant first lady to itselfc not ' is never had never been a woman Assistant throughout the long history of ESTA, Sensei put me on a test of three months and 8 years onwards are still here.

In 1994 I received my coaching certificate from the British Aikido Board (BAB), which is the governing body for ' l ' Aikido in the United Kingdom. Once I became an Assistant to Sensei Ellis I was involved in teaching assistance ' both men and women and also helping with the children's classes.

The first seminar

Sensei Ellis asked if I would like to take part in a very large and important seminar in Liverpool in Northern England, Sensei Ellis ' is not one of those teachers who has a pet uke follow him around to fly around the mat with a touch or a glance, preferring to try to engage all students who attend its seminarsIf possible, knowing this I felt very privileged, but nervous when Sensei told me that there are approximately 700 students from various martial arts, I think the phrase " be thrown finally deep " is irrelevant.

Upon his arrival at the venue I was amazed to see so many students from many countries, UK-France-Germany-India-Italy-Austria are just a few that I remember. Sensei Ellis was asked to take the first class of about 50 degrees dan from various martial arts. Sensei had me show that the 100 pushups on the shoulders of my wrists, fingers pointing towards the inside ' and '. When I had finished and was in position raised Sensei sat on my back (I warn you of this) and carried on with his lecture. Sensei suggested that those who have wanted to try if this initiative. And ' was amazing to see all these black belts. Later I had a small crowd around me who want to control my wrists, I explained that this exercise is standard for both senior and junior in our schools.

Now I was feeling a little safer when Sensei ' pointed out that there are six degrees dan young people who had arrived late and respectfully awaiting permission to come to the carpet. Sensei asked me to show them what you have taught us so much, they were all wearing black and when I approached and invited them on the carpet, she grimaced as if to say hey, we don't have " traveled all the way from London to be taught by a female ", as I showed the first technique Nikkyo " " a wrist action clampthe first guy has tried to resist me, I applied the technique, as shown to me many times by Sensei and almost passed the mat. I thought it would be angry with me, but as he got up, he asked: How did you do? " ". Then I wanted to do the technique on all others, now I got their attention and were a great bunch of guy. I really enjoyed teaching them. At the end of the seminar, while we were leaving the Hall to head towards parking, these six boy were waiting in a line and bowed to me simultaneously with a smile and said to the Sensei Ellis " you have a strong Assistant of dama, sensei " Sensei replied: " here is because she is my assistant ". That was my first seminar and one that I will never forget.
