Remember when you were in high school. Many characters and personalities. Here's one I think about you.
Gillie was the Paul Bunyon in my neighborhood. 20-22 had biceps, and neck almost like a roundabout. Weighing 220 pounds, he stood six feet one inch and had no fat on his body. I had never seen anyone like him in my life. He ambled when he walked. The type of a person on foot or when they know they have nothing to fear. His nickname was Mr. Clean. It seemed a bit 'as the icon of cleaning. Except Gillie had no earring.
On the baseball diamond, Gillie was terrible. His pictures outfielders in the mushroom game warm-up pre touched parts of the sky usually reserved for small engine aircraft. He's afraid the other team. Seemed to Mickey Mantle, and Ted Harmon Killabrew Kluzewski all in one.
Pop was a softball where Gillie excelled. His shots were legendary. He was one of the few who hit the ball over the right field fence. The fence was 270-280 meters away and climbed 40 feet high. It was the only person I've ever seen that hit a ball that went up on that fence on Goldsmith Avenue. His shots seemed to gain altitude as it cleared the fence.
For me, Gillie has always represented the strength, dedication and just a real good guy. He never used his size and strength to put others down. It was his way of building himself.
